Plus size fashion advice!
If frustrations over style and fit have left you vowing not to shop for clothes until you hit your goal weight, listen up: Experts say this is the year to break the code of shopping silence and let  your inner fashionista come out!

Indeed, when it comes to fashion, women size 14 and up have never had more exciting, fashionable choices.

“Plus size clothes have taken a very modern and very stylish turn  - there is a look that can flatter almost every plus size shape, and this season we are seeing more of those styles than ever before," says Sam Saboura.  one of the fashion forces behind Extreme Makeover and author of "Real Style: Style Secrets for Real Women with Real Bodies,"  (Clarkson Potter, June 2005).

What's more, there are lots more places to find all these great new clothes! In addition to traditional plus size outlets like Jessica London, Catherine's and Avenue, this season a number of traditional skinny-girl shops have taken note of the sassy plus-size figure.

Most recently stores like Old Navy, Lands End, LL Bean,  Kohls and TJ Maxx are packing their racks  with plus size styles, while even Victoria's Secret is now offering their super sexy jeans up to size 16 with  tops up to size extra large (18-20).

Getting The Fit That Flatters!

Although the plus size style revolution is clearly making noise, there's a fit evolution going on as well. Together they make shopping for plus size garments easier than ever.

Among the newest fit incentives is "Intellifit" - a kind of new age electronic tailor that is housed in a high tech looking glass tower. You step inside - fully dressed - and the system  uses harmless radio waves to take precise measurements at key points on your body. That  information is  translated into size and style recommendations perfectly suited for your body type and size.

Intellifit was tested recently  at stores like Macy's, Lane Bryant and David's Bridal shops, where customers went wild for  the device.  Now it's, about to launch a cross-country spring-summer tour and should be appearing in a number of malls and stores nationwide, including Levis.

If you have access to a phone and a computer, you don't even have to leave your house to find the perfect fit - thanks to the Home Shopping Networks (HSN) new sizing system.   Unlike most retailers who rely on measurement charts that lump  styles into predetermined size categories, HSN measures every single garment in every size  - and posts those individual measurements on their web site.  According to vice president of fashion merchandising June Saltzman, it "Takes much of the guesswork out of wondering how an item fits!". And you don’t even have to try it on!

In addition to  bust, hip, and waist measurements, HSN also provides  the garment's "sweep" (such as jackets and skirts) and theirlength.

Making things even easier - and more fun: HSN’s virtual model! A kind of grown up cut-out doll it allows you to enter your  measurements online, and presto - the program creates a virtual model of your body. By clicking on the outfits, Saltzman says you can dress your electronic paper doll - and spin it around - to see how the garment will look on your body, all  without breaking a sweat in those otherwise teeny-tiny size 6 dressing rooms!

Similar virtual model systems are available online  at Land's End and  LL Bean.
