The Country Dutchess Online Jewelry store was the dream of author and talk show personality
Colette Bouchez. A bona fide jewelry diva, she began creating her own designs when just a teen - a hobby that won her a full scholarship at New York City's famed Fashion Institute.
Although Colette continued to keep
her jewelry design hobby - choosing instead to pursue a career in in journalism and book writing, throughout those years many friends
and colleagues asked her to create pieces for them - particularly
since she specialized in clip on earrings - notoriously hard to find in
fashionable styles! Within time, her reputation as a style innovator
combined with her penchant for quality , as well as her ability to
duplicate the details and styling often seen in jewelry costing
thousands of dollars, gave the Colette Bouchez line super-star
status - and the demand for her pieces increased beyond
her wildest dreams!
When several top Hollywood celebs started requesting her earrings Colette knew it was time to "go public" - and make her designs available to everyone!
With the help of a few dedicated pals - jewelry divas one and all - The Country Dutchess was offically born!
Country Dutchess Jewelry: What We Offer
Initially, the Country Dutchess was conceived and developed solely to showcase the designs of Colette Bouchez. And, in fact, much of the jewelry you see on this web site is made from Colette's original designs - each one still hand-crafted piece-by-piece in the US, to her exacting specifications. Every Colette Bouchez earring design is available in clip on and pierced styling, and all of her bracelets come in 3 custom sizes. Many of her items are manufactured with antique glass stones and most are valued far above the prices you will find on this site. You may even find some of Colette's jewelry in better department stores and boutiques at far higher prices.
However, because our company has grown so quickly, and the demand for Country Dutchess style jewelry so great, we have expanded our horizons to also bring you top quality pieces from other designers as well, some local and some as far away as France, England, Thailand and Canada. Still, please be assured that every piece of jewely that bears the Country Dutchess name is hand selected by Colette and her team of jewelry divas and carries the same guarantee of quality and dedication to craftsmanship found in her original designs.
Collectable Status
We are happy to report that, as time goes on, and more people become aware of Country Dutchess, the value of Colette Bouchez designs increase in collector's status. While we can't guarantee that any one item will become a collectors edition, many of the pieces are manufactured in such small quantities, their value is often far above what you might find at any other fashion jewelry company.
In addition, from time to time Country Dutchess will also feature Colette Bouchez "Limited Editions" - jewelry pieces made in extremely small quantities, including some one of a kind pieces. After each Limited Edition run is completed, the mold is broken and the piece will not be duplicated - thus increasing it's collectable status. All Limited Edition Jewelry is identified as such on the product page, and each comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Why Dutchess . . .and not Duchess!
Many of you sharp little royalty mavens have written to ask if our name is a mis spelling - or if we don't know that Duchess (as in the jolly old gals from merry old England) is not spelled with a "t". Well, yes, we know that.
And . . . there's a simple explanation! The birthplace of the idea for this jewelry line came about during a misty, water colour weekend in a wonderful bed and breakfast in the picturesque Dutchess County, New York. So, as homage to this fabulous little jewel in New York's crown, we decided to use the same spelling in our company name.
And besides . . . becoming a "Duchess" requires you to marry some stodgy old Duke!
Becoming a "Dutchess" is a lot easier - and more fun! All you have to do is buy a spectacular piece of jewelry -and make an entrance! And tah dah : You're a "Dutchess!"
(Which is a lot like being a Diva -only with more class and style! ) :)
